MobileIron Selects GroupLogic as Mobile File Management Partner for New MobileIron AppConnect Platform

MobileIron Selects GroupLogic as Mobile File Management Partner for New MobileIron AppConnect Platform

Arlington, VA and Mountain View, CA - September 28, 2011 - GroupLogic, the industry's leading provider of software products that unlock the power of new enterprise platforms, and MobileIron, the innovator in enterprise management and security for mobile devices and apps, today announced the two companies have entered a strategic co-development, marketing and sales partnership that will enable MobileIron customers to run GroupLogic's mobile file management (MFM) software, mobilEcho within MobileIron's advanced mobile device management (MDM) framework.

News of the relationship follows today's announcement by MobileIron introducing MobileIron AppConnect, the best way for enterprises to secure mobile applications. Using MobileIron AppConnect, enterprises can secure company data across the lifecycle of their mobile apps, from deployment to usage to retirement. The MobileIron AppConnect APIs will be available first to a select few value-added application partners that will integrate their apps with MobileIron's security platform. One of the first partners to receive access to the new platform, GroupLogic will work closely with MobileIron's team to ensure that mobilEcho runs simply and securely within the MobileIron device and app management infrastructure.

As new devices come to market and more enterprises are embracing the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to work trend, enterprise IT organizations increasingly require infrastructure that enables the deployment and management of thousands of devices and applications that run on those devices in a simple and secure manner. In addition, the inherent corporate security risks of mobile business computing on multiple devices make mobile file sharing and IT management difficult for enterprises concerned with ensuring compliance and security standards are met.

"With the proliferation of mobile devices and skyrocketing adoption rates, both mobile device management and mobile file management are absolute requirements for enterprise IT organizations that want to maintain security and reduce management time and costs," said Ojas Rege, VP of Product, MobileIron. "We are very pleased to be working closely with GroupLogic. We believe that our current and future customers will benefit greatly from having integrated access to two extremely complementary technologies: mobile file management and mobile device management."

"We are pleased to partner with MobileIron and to be called out as a leading mobile file management provider in the short list of first partners with access to AppConnect," said Todd While, Vice President, Mobility Solutions, GroupLogic. "For any enterprise that currently has a mobile device management strategy, mobile file management is a necessity-working with MobileIron makes securing both mobile file sharing and all corporate-owned and employee-owned devices simple and easy to manage."

mobilEcho enables enterprise IT organizations to provide secure and managed corporate file access for enterprise mobile device users, based on existing security and access control policies. Until the release of mobilEcho, enterprise mobile device users had no choice but to use inherently flawed and unsecure work-arounds to access files on mobile devices, including emailing files to themselves or uploading enterprise files into unsecured consumer-based synching services, violating corporate security, governance and compliance policies. mobilEcho addresses this problem by enabling enterprise IT organizations to rapidly install and provide simple, secure and managed Mobile File Management for corporate mobile users.

mobilEcho is the only Mobile File Management system available that:

Can be centrally managed by IT;
Connects directly and securely to enterprise file servers;
Enables IT to deploy and configure corporate-wide mobile file access in minutes;
Provides on-device browsing and storage of corporate files in a secure environment, filling the need left by the lack of a native iPad file system on iPad or other mobile computing platforms;
Ensures mobile file access integrates with existing Active Directory permissions; and,
Provides IT organizations with enterprise-ready software for integrating corporate- and employee-owned iPads into the enterprise ecosystem.
mobilEcho can be purchased via the GroupLogic web store at http://www.grouplogic.com/store/). Interested IT organizations can also take advantage of GroupLogic's free trial of mobilEcho by visiting: www.grouplogic.com/enterprise-file-sharing/ipad-file-system/free-trial.html. GroupLogic offers two pricing options for enterprises, including subscription and perpetual licensing.

MobileIron and Accellion Partner to Provide Enterprises with Secure Mobile Device and Content Management

MobileIron and Accellion Partner to Provide Enterprises with Secure Mobile Device and Content Management

Palo Alto, CA and Mountain View, CA - Sept. 28, 2011 - Accellion®, the award-winning pioneer in enterprise-class, secure collaboration and file sharing solutions, and MobileIron, the innovator in enterprise management and security for mobile devices and apps, today announced a partnership to help enterprises secure, manage and monitor mobile devices and the data shared via these devices.

“Using Accellion Secure Collaboration’s native mobile apps, our teams really appreciate being able to securely collaborate on contracts and engineering plans with internal and external business partners,” said Jason Otani, Director, IT Infrastructure, Curtiss-Wright Corporation. “MobileIron’s ability to wipe the device clean remotely any time a device is lost or stolen adds another level of security protection against a possible data breach.”

Most organizations have minimal visibility into what’s on an employee’s phone and how it’s being used. MobileIron’s unique architecture eradicates this blind spot. Even fewer organizations have control or insight into information being accessed and shared via mobile devices. Accellion Secure Collaboration with Accellion Mobile Apps eliminates this security loophole. Together, MobileIron and Accellion are enabling IT to regain control over mobile devices and how employees collaborate and share information from them.

The addition of Accellion Mobile Apps to MobileIron’s Enterprise App Storefront makes it easy for a company’s IT department to recommend the Accellion app to its business users. Business users can then easily download the app knowing they have the approval of the IT department to do so. For added security in the event a device is lost or stolen, MobileIron’s technology wipes the device clean, including data stored on the Accellion Mobile App.

MobileIron and Accellion already have a number of customers in common including industrial manufacturer Curtiss-Wright Corporation.

“Enterprise mobility is now about the app and business users expect to be able to do a lot more than just get their corporate email on their mobile device,” said Bob Tinker, CEO, MobileIron. “We are delighted to be working with innovative companies like Accellion to provide enterprise IT with the tools and the apps they need to deliver mobility as a strategic business service.”

“Business users are quickly embracing the anytime, anywhere data access that mobile devices offer. As a result it is becoming increasingly difficult for IT to protect confidential information and demonstrate compliance,” said Yorgen Edholm, CEO of Accellion. “With Accellion and MobileIron, businesses can be certain information is secure and compliance mandates are being met.”

Designed to work with Accellion Secure Collaboration™, Accellion Mobile Apps enable business users to securely share and manage files from their mobile device. Mobile users can securely browse workspaces, send and share files, subscribe to notifications, and provide comments on files located within their Accellion Secure Workspaces. To protect information, files are stored in Accellion secure workspaces which only authorized business users can access. IT has control and management of users and files shared via Accellion Secure Collaboration.

Syniverse World-Class Infrastructure Ensures Uninterrupted Mobile Service during Disruptive Events

TAMPA, Fla. – Sept. 28, 2011 – In the first two hours following the Aug. 23 earthquake along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, Syniverse processed more than 220 million SMS messages, a 15 percent spike from the same period one day earlier without interruption. Less than a week later in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, Syniverse again supported mobile operators’ SMS, MMS and roaming services in the affected areas without any disruption.
These back-to-back events are two of the latest examples of how Syniverse’s superior network design and infrastructure ensures mobile operators can maintain unmatched service reliability at all times, even during and after unforeseen disruptive events. Syniverse’s approach to business continuity is rooted in an active strategy of investment in preparedness, for both the network infrastructure and the Syniverse team members actively engaged in disaster planning and recovery.

“No one in our space in mobile can match Syniverse’s level of quality, redundancy, preparation and testing. This is what sets our carrier-grade reliability apart from less robust service offerings,” said Jeff Gordon, President and CEO. “In the face of a natural disaster, civil upheaval, pandemic or other major unforeseen event, Syniverse is ready to provide our customers the five-nines availability consumers, businesses and governments require.”

To address network preparedness, Syniverse has global command centers in Bangalore, India, and Tampa, Fla., which provide full georedundancy. The 9,300-mile separation virtually eliminates the possibility that disasters will strike both centers at the same time. Syniverse also has expanded 15 data centers worldwide in the past six years, providing additional flexibility to quickly shift computing resources to support sudden traffic spikes. In the United States, the company’s network includes hubs in Chicago and Dallas, which are both connected to 14 widely dispersed data centers on three continents. This redundant design, in which each operator customer connects to Syniverse’s data centers via several links, maintains service even in the unlikely event of multiple failures.

Further solidifying its network integrity is Syniverse’s own IPX backbone. This private, carrier-grade, Layer 3 Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled network allows for individual sites to be connected to the MPLS core in multiple, resilient ways, so the enhanced intelligence capabilities are able to automatically redirect traffic via an alternate route or site if necessary. This means if one site is inoperable, others can still maintain connection with instant, automatic rerouting – which is not always the case with alternate point-to-point connection options. The network also is monitored 24x7, 365 days per year by the Syniverse Command Center to ensure 100 percent system availability.

“Preparedness doesn’t stop with the network itself, which is why every Syniverse product and department has a specific business-continuity plan that ensures continuous service in the event of a disaster,” Gordon said. “These plans are tested regularly, with published testing schedules for each product and results reported each quarter. We also involve customers in our testing exercises to give them the utmost confidence in the Syniverse solutions on which they rely.”

In addition to supporting company initiatives, Syniverse executives have been tapped to support U.S. national efforts for emergency planning. Senior Vice President John Wick is a member of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC), and Chief Network Architect BJ Neal participates in the U.S. Emergency Response Interoperability Center (ERIC) Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC).

Stratos Introduces New FleetBroadband Flat Fee Plans

--New plans offer reliable, global broadband connectivity for a predictable monthly fee--

Bethesda, Maryland (September 28, 2011) – Stratos Global, the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today announced the commercial availability of its Inmarsat FleetBroadband Flat Fee service plans, known as FBB Flat Fee.

Stratos’ new FBB Flat Fee plans offer the high performance (up to 432kbps), global coverage, simplicity and reliability of Inmarsat FleetBroadband – in addition to The Stratos Advantage value-added services – all at an affordable, flat monthly price.

The FBB Flat Fee plans include 10GB and 15GB per-vessel data connectivity options. If a vessel exceeds the plan’s monthly data allocation, the price will not increase – but data speeds will be reduced. The plans also include highly competitive rates for voice calls.

Shipping companies now can choose from contract periods of two to four years. The four-year contract period represents the most competitive FleetBroadband commercial offering on the market today.

These plans utilize a standard FleetBroadband 500 terminal, simplifying installation and support. FleetBroadband has become the standard in global maritime communications. Many newly built vessels, or ships that have already upgraded to FleetBroadband, are already fully equipped to utilize the service today – thereby making additional capital costs unnecessary.

Stratos also offers customers the option of a three-month, paid trial period. During the trial period, customers can upgrade or downgrade their FBB Flat Fee data allocation or contract duration. The trial period allows time for Stratos and the customer to work together, to select the plan that meets the requirements of each vessel.

Stratos today is the market leader in the number of FBB Flat Fee plans deployed. The plans have been deployed by Stratos for a number of its existing customers, as well as by Stratos Channel Partner Navarino Telecom for ship-management companies Grieg Shipping Group, OSM Ship Management and Ugland Marine Services, among others.

FBB Flat Fee is one of several innovative Stratos broadband programs that provide shipping companies with a flexible pathway to Inmarsat’s Global Xpress Ka-band service. Global Xpress, which is expected to be commercially available in 2013, will deliver speeds of up to 50Mbps. Customers contracting for FBB Flat Fee plans from Stratos can upgrade to Global Xpress without penalty.

“Many of the world’s leading shipping companies are demanding higher volumes of data – with the dependability of L-band satellite communications – to support critical applications. They also want to choose from a range of price plans that meet their specific requirements,” said Joe Apa, Stratos Vice President, Global Maritime. “We are meeting those demands with simple, affordable plans such as FBB Flat Fee, in addition to our managed global broadband service XpressLink.”

Apa concluded, “Our wide range of broadband solutions proves that we are ideally suited to help expand our customers’ communications capabilities as we prepare for the availability Inmarsat’s Global Xpress services.”

FleetBroadband from Stratos provides ships with global broadband connectivity while at sea – for email, Internet access and voice communications – ensuring optimal vessel performance, business operations and crew productivity.

Since its introduction in 2007, Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband has been deployed on more than 21,600 vessels. Stratos’ more than 9,000 FleetBroadband activations encompass all major geographic regions and vessel types, from customers including Wallem Shipmanagement, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, Varun Shipping Co., MISC Berhad, Albacora Group, MPC Steamship and the Royal Netherlands Navy.

InMobi Smartphone Study Reveals 41% of Mobile Users To Buy Apple iPhone 5

SAN MATEO, California, September 28, 2011—InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile ad network, today announces the combined results of its monthly InMobiMobile Insights network ad data research and a custom iPhone-focused study, iPhone 5 and the Mobile Market. The InMobi announcement acts as a forecast to the scope and effect of the confirmed October 4th Apple iPhone announcement in North America. InMobi anticipates the North American mobile ad market to experience a significant increase in mobile media consumption based on the iPhone 5 consumer data findings.

Apple iPhone 5 potentially the most successful smartphone launch to date. The recent InMobi consumer smartphone survey uncovers that 41% of current mobile users in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada plan to buy an iPhone 5—potentially making it the most successful launch from the consumer electronics giant to date. The study further finds that over 50% of those users will make the purchase within the first six months of the iPhone 5 launch, which could take Apple significantly ahead of its June 2011 market position, and increase its mobile platform market share from 27% in June (comScore Inc., August 2011) to 41%.

However, if Apple only unveils a product update—akin to the 3GS version of the iPhone that Apple released in 2009—interest in the new smartphone will be significantly lower, with fewer than 15% of consumers likely to actively pursue the new handset.

The study finds that consumers are most hopeful for improved battery life; increased processing speed; higher-quality screen resolution; and stronger phone service in the rumored Apple smartphone.

Krush also gains from the ability to roll out new services rapidly with emerging market opportunities, and already plans to deploy DIGITALK’s Broadband Telephony application to offer prepaid residential VoIP to enhance service value and reduce customer churn.

Brian Rudolph from Krush explains “We have had a very stable relationship with our suppliers and customers over the four years with the Homies brand - Managing the transition to our own platform is a big deal, clearly, but we are constantly reassured by DIGITALK’s expertise, training and support.”

Justin Norris, CEO of DIGITALK added “We’ve been developing prepaid solutions for 15 years, and have built a great deal of trust from our customers where the DIGITALK platform is the foundation of their business. We wouldn’t be in business ourselves if we didn’t manage both the technology to push services and markets forward, but also provide the levels of support our customers need to make these transitions.”

AdaptiveMobile Finds US Smartphone Users Don’t Care if You Can Hear Them

AdaptiveMobile Finds US Smartphone Users Don’t Care if You Can Hear Them

Woburn, Mass. – September 26, 2011 --
AdaptiveMobile, the world leader in mobile security, today announced results from a survey examining mobile-threat awareness among 2000 US smartphone users and the expectations consumers are placing upon mobile operators to provide a safe mobile experience. The report finds that for the first time in history, data security is more important to US cell phone users than call quality, with 68% citing keeping information secure as the most important carrier function vs. 52% for service quality / reliability.

The survey also finds that respondents are aware of mobile threats, with 52% of subscribers experiencing a mobile threat over the past year. For example, 1 in 3 US smartphone users reported receiving mobile spam, and 1 in 7 indicated that they were exposed to SMS text phishing. Even with these high rates of exposure, only a small number of subscribers use security software (23%), and three-quarters of these use the software only because it is free. The subscribers take it for granted that their personal and financial data is protected by the carrier, leaving the carrier as the first line of defense in a smartphone environment that is growing more open, complex, dynamic and crowded each day.

Despite the high levels of mobile threat experiences and awareness, US smartphone users are still placing themselves at risk. For example, more than 30% would open an SMS from an unknown sender and more than 40% save information such as passwords to their phone. These same users are consistent in their certainty that not only does security responsibility lie with the carrier, but they will switch providers if their security is not maintained: with 90% saying they would change carriers if an unexpected item appeared on their bill, 85% changing carriers if they are exposed to malware / viruses, and 71% leaving the carrier due to spam.

Among the findings:

Subscribers see security as the mobile operator’s responsibility

Subscribers hold mobile network operators responsible for a variety of security issues ranging from unexpected items on their bill (74%), SMS text phishing (55%), unsolicited messages / spam (54%), malware / viruses (46%) and rogue applications (36%)
Subscribers are more concerned about the data and information stored on their phone (86%) or the possibility of identity theft (69%) than they are about the handset itself (45%)
Subscribers don’t plan to take responsibility for protection themselves, with only 1 in 5 smartphone users currently using security software (23%), and three quarters of these only using software because it is free

Mobile operators stand to lose the most, including their currently held trusted service provider status

For US smartphone users, the biggest eroder of trust is personal data being compromised (54%) followed by unauthorized charges (44%)
At present in the US, subscribers trust mobile network operators with their personal details and data (45%) more than mobile handset manufacturers (41%), Government (38%) and social networks (26%)
The impact of failing to secure subscriber trust affects more than just the individual subscriber with two in three subscribers (66%) saying that if they have a negative experience with their mobile network operator they tend to tell other people

Smartphone users have experienced mobile threats and still do really risky things

More than half of subscribers (52%) have experienced at least one security incident in the last 12 months, the most common being spam, received by more than 1 in 3 subscribers (37%). 1 in 7 (16%) has seen unexpected items on their mobile bill and a similar number (15%) have been exposed to SMS text phishing.
One in three subscribers (34%) would open an SMS text message and 28% would open an email message from someone they don’t know on their mobile. Furthermore, 40% would save log-in information such as passwords to their mobile and more than three quarters (77%) download apps to their phone
Six percent of US users report having been infected with a mobile virus in the last twelve months, well over the actual rates of under 1%. Subscribers are starting to suspect virus activity where none exists, adding to customer care costs for the carrier.
“The US carrier market currently has more loyalty and trust from its customer base than almost any other industry, and this survey underscores the importance of maintaining this customer confidence, especially around mobile security,” said Brian Collins, CEO AdaptiveMobile. “Subscribers view the carrier as the safety net in this increasingly complex mobile environment, and US carriers have a great opportunity to take steps to cement this trust. Those carriers that fail to see this as an opportunity to differentiate will risk losing customers, as the respondents made it clear, they will leave if their data is compromised.”

Open Letter from LightSquared CEO Sanjiv Ahuja

Open Letter from LightSquared CEO Sanjiv Ahuja

RESTON, Va., September 25, 2011 – LightSquared™'s, CEO, Sanjiv Ahuja, will publish an open letter to all Americans that will run in major newspapers on Monday. In the letter, Mr. Ahuja reaffirms LightSquared’s commitment to making wireless broadband accessible and affordable across America through the company’s wholesale-only nationwide 4G-LTE network integrated with satellite coverage.
The text of the letter reads:
To Americans everywhere,
Today, with limited competition in the U.S. wireless market, there are still vast areas of our country without access to broadband. Other areas are plagued by dropped calls and weak signals.
America’s wireless infrastructure is at a critical crossroad as weak signals, dead-zones, and over-subscribed networks risk stalling American innovation and failing to meet consumer needs now and in the future. Within the next 24 months, demand for broadband wireless will outstrip the current total spectrum available in the United States—jeopardizing everything from the smartphones and tablets we love to the emergency responder services we rely upon to keep us safe. The current nationwide wireless providers have failed to innovate and in the process have failed to keep pace with consumer and technological demands.
Understanding this impending reality, LightSquared began investing nearly a decade ago in the development of America’s first state-of-the-art nationwide wireless broadband network integrated with satellite coverage to provide high quality broadband access and affordability for all Americans. After the review of our engineering and technological plans, LightSquared received the license to operate our network in 2003 and again in 2005 with the full endorsement of the GPS industry. Half a dozen years ago, Republican and Democrat regulators and policy experts understood the impending crisis caused by a lack of competition and innovation, and they, too, endorsed our plan to bring an affordable solution to Americans no matter where they live.
Recently, concerns have been raised about interference with GPS devices. We take these concerns very seriously. Despite the fact that the interference is caused by others’ inappropriate use of LightSquared’s licensed spectrum, we have been proactive in working toward a solution to the GPS issue. We are making a $150 million private investment in the solution for GPS. We have moved our spectrum farther away from the core GPS frequencies and at the request of the FCC, we set up, funded, and ran the largest and most comprehensive testing program this country has ever seen.
Hundreds of engineers tested hundreds of devices in laboratories around the country, providing experts an enormous bank of data to assess the extent of the problem and design the solution.
With 99.5 percent of all commercial GPS interference accounted for and solved, LightSquared has now tackled solving the remaining .5 percent of GPS interference occurring on precision devices that also inappropriately violate our licensed spectrum. We have partnered with established GPS manufacturers to develop technology that eliminates interference issues for high-precision GPS devices, including those in the agriculture, surveying, construction, and defense industries. Pre-production designs are already in testing; once completed, this technology can be implemented simply, quickly, and inexpensively into GPS devices.
This solution allows our network to coexist harmoniously, side by side, with GPS—generating much-needed competition in the marketplace and ultimately providing more than 260 million Americans with access to wireless broadband.
The facts are clear. The need for additional wireless broadband is imminent. The desire to expand free-market competition and to provide consumers with broader access has been the hallmark of both Republican and Democrat policy makers for more than a decade. Regulators from both Democrat and Republican Administrations have conducted reviews and tests of the LightSquared network—the most extensive in the history of the FCC—and both have reached the same conclusions: they support the LightSquared network.
LightSquared’s commitment to infuse $14 billion of private investment—without any government funding—into America’s infrastructure will bring 75,000 jobs over the next five years, competition, and innovation to the U.S. wireless industry, with affordable prices and better service for Americans everywhere. I hope you will join with us as we work to build the 21st-century communications network all Americans deserve.

Yours sincerely,
Sanjiv Ahuja
